* 9/9/2006 - The Nine Round Manly Spring Tournament for 2006 will be played from September to December. Please check the Club Program for dates. Please note that Monday 16 October has been set down for the return "Little Board" Match at Home against norths chess club. Round 1 next Monday 11 September 2006 is commencing at 7.30pm for the 24 members who have entered. Late entries will be accepted next Monday night and paired in order of entry. The Club's Game Captain Jonathan Adams has indicated that he will not be able to play because of work commitments and accordingly will not be available to act as a joint Director of Play which role Norman Greenwood will now assume. Participants should ensure they are present before 7.30pm so games can commence on time. Good luck to all !
* 21/08/2006 - Come (with your partners/ families/ friends) and join us for the club's "Christmas in July in August" dinner at the Thai Lanna Restaurant, 1465 Pittwater Road, North Narrabeen. It is this Friday night and you get a Thai banquet for only $15 per person. The club is subsidising all the meals. The night starts from 7 PM and will also include a raffle. BYO. * 21/08/2006 - Congratulations to Steve Vegh, who won the Winter 30/30 club tournament. Second (and very, very close behind) was Gordon Struk, third was Jack Mejzini and fourth was Martin Lakeland. Full details will soon be on this web site. Tonight our 12 round open Allegro (15 minutes each per game, 4 games per night for 3 consecutive nights) tournamant begins, so come along for a bit of fun! * 29/07/2006 - Congratulations to John Radovan who won the Board 3 prize for the Under 1600 interclub grade match competition. David Cook may pick up a prize for the U 1400 too. * 29/07/2006 - Congratulations to Alex Papp who has won the B Grade of our club championships. With one game to play, against Derek Nabulsi, Alex has 6.5 points. 2nd = are John Radovan, Chris Dimock, and Hans Schwandl on 6 points. 5th is David Cook on 5.5 points and 6th = are Nabulsi and Matthew Carden on 5. * 10/07/2006 - In the SMH today Peter Parr reports that the NSW Junior Chess League's two Winter tournaments have both been won by Max Illingworth. One-Day Tournament - 271 players, 8 rounds - Max scored 8. Two-Day Tournament - 230 players - 11 rounds - Max scored 10.5 from 11. Total score 18.5 from 19. [Tom Accola]

* 26/06/2006 - Congratulations to Jacob Graham, C grade champion for 2006. He won the play-off match with Bruce Douglas 2-1. Congratulations also to our interclub teams who are all acquitting themselves well. [Jonathan Adams]
* 17/06/2006 - Game 2 of the match to determine our club C Grade champion between Bruce Douglas and Jacob Graham was won by Bruce who was White. The score stands at 1-1 with a third game scheduled for Monday. \
The match rules are as follows: Two games at tournament time controls (toss for colours and play reverse colours for the second game) and a decider (if necessary) again tossing for colours. If no result ensues the Committee will need to review the position as to whether joint winners are declared. Note that the winner(s) of B Grade is not yet known but a deadline of 26 June has been imposed for completion of all games. [Jonathan Adams]

* 11/05/2006 - On 7 May the NSWCA held the NSW Teams Challenge tournament at Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club. One of the teams was the Manly U-Knighted consisting of Michael Morris, David Webster, Alex Papp and Jacob Graham. They won in the U 1400 category with the performance of the latter two being the best "team" in that grade, and got 11th overall. * 17/04/2006 - Happy Easter everyone! I shall be away tonight but Norman Greenwood and Gordon Miller will officiate in my place for the postponed games tonight. Many players have postponed games, so if you are one of them please ring your opponent and if you can come and play tonight. On Tuesday May 9 we have an away "Little Board" match v North Sydney. Please tell Norman or Gordon if you are a available to play for Manly in that event. Also, if you consult the club calendar and you will see that our next club tournament is the Rapid Play 30/30 Winter tournament. This is the one where there are 24 rounds and you play as many as you can. This means that people playing inter-club chess can still enter.
